A Song Parody

The sleet, ice and snow that's happening in Oklahoma right now isn't a laughing matter but sometimes humor helps.

You know how emails start getting forwarded around during an event - for instance, bad weather? One was delivered to my email box this afternoon. Not sure who came up with this parody of our state song but he/she is talented. If you happen to know the originator is I'd be happy to know so I can give them credit.

SNOW.....klahoma
Where the cold front's sweepin' down the plain
And the piles of sleet, beneath your feet
Follow right behind the freezing rain.

SNOW.....klahoma
Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I
Travel home from work and hope some jerk
Doesn't wreck our car passing by!

We know we belong to the land
But it could use some more salt and sand

That's why we say.....WHOA!
We're sliding the other way.....YIKES!

We're only sayin'
You're slick as snot SNOWklahoma
SNOWklahoma
SNOW-K-L-A-H-O-M-A

SNOWklahoma, SNOW-K!

  2. I'm glad that they, whomever they are, find humor in all the sleet and ice weather we're having! I'm having a hard time looking at it that way though.. I am real glad that all my love one's are safe home now from their workplaces..and that they don't have to be out and about in it anymore! Weather like this absolutely scares me whenever it comes around.. I'm sure you're also very familiar, as I am, with the ice storms that has happened over the years here in Oklahoma.. Can be very dangerous..

You and your family and love one's stay safe and keep warm, and I pray that none of our electricity throughout our state goes off!
    Blessings,
    ~Lynn

  3. Being a ingrafted Okie I thought this was cute. It is just now staring in our area but the rain is turning into ice. The iceicles are already hanging off the mail box and the mail box door was almost frozen shut. We have everything we need and are ready to hunker down. As long as the electricity stays on we will be fine. What about you!

I would rather a deep freeze than freezing rain any day of the week.

  6. heehee.. cabin fever eh? Funny thing how you folks out in the southwest happen to have tons more snow and rain since the tsunami in 2004 and the southern east coast is drying up.

Enjoy that nasty stuff.. let's hope it cuts off at Winston Salem for me.

    with love,

    Olivia

  10. Wow that is really good. That happens to be a favorite song of mine. My parents performed that for a PTA talent night when I was in grade school and I was in the musical Oklahoma when I was in high school. I even have the soundtrack from the movie....I love it!

    Stay safe and warm!

  14. Great post. Bringing back high school memories when I tried out for the part of Jo or Josie (whatever her name was) in the high school musical. Now I've got an ear worm. Thanks a lot.

  16. Being a native Okie, love the song, but the weather is not funny. My daughter still lives there and they had lots of snow and ice. We did in my state too. Stay warm. Good to find another Okie in blogland.
