One Last Stand

Old Man Winter decided to make one last stand on the first day of Spring. (I sure hope it was his last stand!)

Friday was a beautiful day. Then on Saturday morning I woke up between 5 and 5:15 am to the sound of sleet hitting the bedroom window.

I went back to sleep for a bit and when I got up it was really snowing hard.

At one point our park bench was covered in birds perched there to stay out of the wind and snow.

When I saw them I ran to get my camera but the dogs saw the birds, started barking and they all flew back out into the cold.

They did leave their calling card though.

Of course Smoke and Dani wanted to go right out. Here's Elliott saying, "See, I told you you'd never be able to catch those birds. Here I am nice and warm inside and you're standing out there freezing!"

Dani didn't want to give up hunting the birds though.

Finally she decided it was time to come in. For a little while.

Sunday morning the snow drifts on the south side of the house looked like this.

I took this shot out my bedroom window.

These were the snow drifts on the north side of the house looking west.

And one looking east.

One of the windows on the north side of the house.

I really intended to post the photos yesterday but was too busy watching 2 road graders try to clear our road.

One got stuck at least 3 times.

This photo was taken about 3:15 yesterday afternoon after a whole lot of melting.

But there was still a LOT of snow on the road.

The foreman of the crew told AD our road was about the worst one they'd seen yesterday.

After they got just past our driveway about 5:30, they quit for the day.

This morning, they're back at it again, clearing the road on farther west.

Looks like we've got a lot of mud in our future. But Spring is here - right, Spring?

  1. I keep remembering last year when we got a big snow on March 28th! Hopefully last weekend was the end of our winter weather.

xoRebecca PS: I have a Yorkie named Mollie the Molinator. She is queen of the house and insists on sleeping in the sheets. If my mother ONLY KNEW! xo

  4. I can't believe you got all this snow! Northern Michigan usually gets pounded like that and it's sunny and rather warm here now. Stay warm with a good book........

  9. Looks like our place. We had 12" all totaled. No fun but it is now gone and lots of mud.

I think spring is finally on its way, hopefully with no tornadoes.
