Coffee Anyone?

I don't drink coffee or tea. I just never did acquire a taste for either.

Last Sunday afternoon while AD was watching the Nascar race on t.v. I was reading through my list of favorite blogs.

When I came to Ozark Oddments, Leilani's October 31 post invited her readers to tea. She said she has a variety of teas and cups.

Several years ago I received one of those emails that gets forwarded on. This particular one really spoke to me. I filed it away and occasionally when it is brought to mind I take it out and read it over again.

It's about coffee cups but I don't see why you couldn't insert the word tea for coffee.

You may possibly have read it before but I'd like to share it with you again and hope that you enjoy it too.

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university Professor.Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the Prof went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said “If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life, but the quality of life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it.”

Which do you treasure more - the quality of your coffee, or the quality of your coffee cups?

  2. Interesting email you received there.
Never thought about it that way. But it does make a lot of sense.

  3. Inspiring read. I am a tea addict and like it in any cup, hot or cold. Isn't it fascinating what our choices say about us?

  4. Loved this story! I'm a complete coffee addict and there are only TWO cups in my entire house that I use. Both are quite plain and inexpensive. One is my flower pot cup and the other my husband got me at the dollar store. What does that say about me??? :D
