Occasionally one of AD's cameras snaps a shot of this guy - or one of his brothers - but they're usually not very good photos. About 4 days ago this one showed up on the memory chip.
A coyote! How cool! You don't have chickens do you? I once had a dog that was half coyote...and she always went chicken hunting. The farmers around us were not happy with us as neighbors.
Believe it or not we have coyotes behind our house from time to time in south Tulsa. The first time we heard them howling we were very surprised. We do have a small greenbelt behind our house, but it is surrounded with houses & a busy street.
I see that you are interested in the UK and photography! Perhaps you would enjoy my blog:

woa, is that a coyote? My husband and I just saw one the other day crossing the interstate with a dead rabbit in its mouth! I didn't realize they were common in this area, but when we lived in Florida we saw them several times in a populated area busy street!
Wow, that's a big boy or girl! Sadly many cats in my future SIL's neighborhood have vanished thanks to a coyote. They are in the city now, and it's scary.
For the first time in two years i heard a pack of coyote over by the Blue Ridge Parkway last night....i think Misskitty will be staying close to hte house for a while.....!! Enjoy
I know farm people hate coyotes but I like them very much -- we don't have any reason not to! We hear them "talking to each other" fairly often -- frequently they sound off when a train comes by. Great photo. I almost thought it was a fox at first!
What an awesome pic - I have to agree, he's a very healthy, plump looking specimen. I've never managed to get a good pic of these guys yet. Someday.... gawd knows there's plenty of them in these parts!
Nice pic. He looks pretty healthy.

ReplyDeleteSmiles,

We have been having trouble with them this year.
ReplyDeleteWe are real careful about letting our baby out to do his thing.
It was a great shot I must say.

He's a big one. We usually see scrawny ones around here.

ReplyDeletelots and lots of them smushed on the interstate in Arizona... and that's about all......!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo.
ReplyDeleteI saw one the other day and was wondering if you found one from a pup and raised it, would it be like a dog? I know, I am always thinking. lol
Yep, even with the donkey's protection we've had trouble keepin' 'em outta the cattle and away from the baby calves. It seems worse this year!
ReplyDeleteHe made for a great shot and a fantastic picture sweetie.
God bless ya and have a marvelous day!!!
I know they are a problem, but I think they are a beautiful animal! Good catch!

ReplyDeletePat, The camera is about 330 yards from the house.
ReplyDeleteLeilani, We have railroad tracks about a mile and a quarter from our house and whenever a train passes you can sure hear them.
Sharon, We have a fenced in area for our kids to go out and do their business. I still keep an eye on them though.
It's sure a good thing that you've got Elliott, Smoke and Dani to keep the coyotes far away from Mikey and the rest of your bunch!
ReplyDeleteol' wiley coyote is out and about, huh?
ReplyDeletea friend trapped one (to release later) but the smell was horrible!!! man, they stink like B.O. and dead animal. yuk!
Seems he's a wee bit camera shy, the problem we have over this side of the pond is foxes.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture!
ReplyDeleteSuperb clip. We could use one to lesson the sunk population that seems to be spreading .
