This weekend is the Dalton Defenders celebration in Coffeyville, Kansas. Last year - and I can't believe a year has already passed! - I posted the story of of the Dalton's Raid on Coffeyville back on October 5, 1892. You can read that post here.
Tonight (Friday) AD and I drove into Coffeyville to see the reenactment. The reenactment will be put on again two more times tomorrow. Of course I had my camera with me and took lots of photos. I had actually planned to post some of those tonight but as we were returning home and driving down our road there was just a bit of fog in places and I snapped photos.
I thought I'd share some of them with you.
The house in the background belongs to one of our neighbors.
This is a perfect photo for October, at least in my opinion. It looks kind of creepy to me, like something out of a ghost story.
That's it for tonight. I'll post some of the re-enactment photos in the next day or two.
If you're in Oklahoma, get out and enjoy some of the beautiful Fall weather this weekend! If you're not in Oklahoma, I sure hope your weather is as glorious as ours!
Beautilful pictures!
ReplyDeleteEspecially that first one.
I love taking sunet pictures.
Years ago, we lived in Wynonna. There are lots of canyons and caves in that area and I was told that the Dalton Gang used to "vacation" in them between bank heists, paying Indians to act as lookouts. One of the residents in Wynonna lives in a house where the Daltons used to "rest." Only one of the rooms is original, but it still has the bullet holes in the walls where booze, poker, and tempers got out of hand. Fascinating history. Osage and Washington counties are beautiful areas.

Beautiful pictures that make me wish I were there. It's a cool, crisp morning here. I'm glad to be home and have my doggie back with me. I missed her.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like my road. Are you sure you're not a NJ Granny?! The rain, wind, and tornado threats have passed and left us with a gorgeous autumn day. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour Friend,

ReplyDeleteweather here is so nice, tomorrow an expected high of 70! lovin it!
Definitely looks like Oklahoma with the trees and bushes leaning from the wind, the hiline poles and sometimes telephone poles. I really like the pictures of the fog. Fog does make for an errieness (sp).
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Those are beautiful shots Granny. I love when the fog rolls in like that. But only if it's in the morning, if I see it like that at night, it scares the whoo whoo out of me. LOL. I see by your widget it's 5oish there now. I'm so stinking jealous. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're right, there is a sense of the spooky to those pics. Look forward to the re-enactment shots.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love Oklahoma?
ReplyDeleteThese are perfect Halloween photos.
