Last year we planted some gourd and pumpkin seeds that we'd saved from the year before.
This year AD didn't want to plant anything.
But we had a volunteer - or is it really volunteers - come up.
I took these photos on Sunday and they are looking kind of droopy.
But we had some rain early Monday so they are happier now.
There are lots of flowers on the vines and I spied this almost fully grown gourd already.
You know what all this means don't you?
Fall is just around the corner. Yea!
Yep, that`s a sure sign of fall!
ReplyDeleteSometimes things to do better on their own. When we plant and take care of them, they tend to die. Nature had a her own way.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for fall. We've hat it too hot for too long. I wonder with the temps and the drought if I can find a pick your own pumpkin farm in our state. Let me know if you hear of one because I'm willing to drive. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that the plant survived the Oklahoma heat! Hopefully you'll have a bumper crop of gourds to harvest and use for fall decorating. I'm so anxious for autumn to begin!

We have started the roller-coaster weather now, so we will have Autumn soon. I hope it stays around a while! I do hate when one day it's Summer and a week later it's Winter!
ReplyDeleteCarol, The vines have not only had to endure the terrible heat this summer but also the cold, cold winter too. I think it's just remarkable myself. And funny thing is, the vines we had last year weren't nearly as massive as these are.

ReplyDeleteI am so ready for fall. Next week looks like we might get some cooler weather. I wish I could get a hold of some pumpkins that didn't cost an arm and a leg. They are getting so expensive.

ReplyDeleteAren't you glad AD decided not to plant them this year? By next, your entire yard would turn into the Great Pumpkin/Gourd Patch! I can just imagine Smokey creeping thru the vines after the Red Barron destroyed his plane. :)
ReplyDeleteWe had a watermelon seed spitting contest when I was a child and from then on we had a watermelon patch every summer!
Autumn is my favorite season. Soon!

I would say fall is close that is for sure.
ReplyDeleteWe are having a big up and down weather pattern.
Today and till Friday it is going to be near 100 and then Sat through Labor Day it is to be high 60s. They say we might need a jacket for Labor Day.

ReplyDeleteOne of the best Christmas presents I ever got was a gourd someone had grown, dried, varnished and then painted into an "angel." I love it. The stalks of the naked lady lilies are finally starting to die back. I have not forgotten.
