Happy Birthday, G4!

Today is G4's 8th birthday.

I went to his party on Saturday.

It was a "red-neck" themed party.

There were games like red-neck golf (this is G3 taking his turn), sunflower seed spitting contest and hubcap throwing (similar to frisbee).

Son made a red velvet "road kill possum" cake and there were red-neck mouths (apple lips, peanut butter gums and mini marshmallow teeth), RC Cola and mini Moon Pies.

Notice there were only 7 candles on the cake. The lighter provided the 8th "candle."

All of G4's gifts came wrapped in plastic or brown paper sacks. Except for the one from Daughter's family and AD's and mine. The gift from Daughter's family was actually in a plastic sack to begin with but I wrapped it.

Silly me, I wasn't thinking about the theme of the party and I actually wrapped his gifts. In my defense though I did use red paper.

It was a fun party and I'm glad I got to go.

Favorite Photos Friday

G1's senior prom was last Saturday evening.

The weatherman had predicted rain and when we woke up Saturday morning, the sky looked like this. There were rain showers throughout the day. By Saturday evening it didn't appear rain would be a problem.

Her mother wanted to do a photo shoot at their house. Daughter went and took some photos.

Then they came up to our house and waited for me so I could take a few photos.

At my suggestion G1 opted to buy new black tennis shoes to wear with his tux. Times have changed, the shoes looked ok with the tux and G1 was comfortable on the dance floor. (I saw one girl with tennis shoes on and a couple of the girls were wearing their boots under their beautiful dresses although if you weren't paying attention you would have never known. They were wanting to be comfortable too.)

A lot of the guys were wearing their shades to the walk-in. I don't think we saw any that weren't white rimmed.

This is one of my top 2 favorite photos.

AD told G1 he could borrow the truck for prom. I wondered how G1's gf was going to manage to get in. The step stool helped.

G1 was in a hurry to get to prom. He didn't want to be late.

They weren't late. In fact they were about 10 minutes early.

AD and I were the ones that were late.

So we didn't get to see this. Daughter said when G1 picked his gf up out of the truck and set her on the ground everyone that was there said, "Aaahhhhhh!"

I wish I'd been there. I'm just glad that Daughter was able to get this photo

This is my most favorite photo.

After all the kids walked in, they had them all come back out and stroll down the sidewalk when their names were announced. Cameras were flashing everywhere. All they needed was a red carpet.

G1 and his gf had a great time. They went to after prom too and had fun there too.

As a granny I really liked how after prom was handled. When the kids left prom to go home and change, they had to be back at the school by midnight to catch a bus to the after prom party. When the party was over they were bussed back to the school for breakfast.The party lasted until 5am so by the time breakfast was over it was 6am. G1 and his gf thought it would have been better if the after prom party had been over about 3am. They were worn out.

But they had lots of fun and made a ton of memories. Good times!

Scrapbooking Project

Several people commented on scrapbooking so I thought I'd show you one of the projects I worked on last weekend.

It's a mini-scrapbook. I put 3 of them together - one for G1 (he has to share with his mom); one for his girlfriend; and one for me, of course.

Note that the photos are somewhat 'spoilers' for the prom post I plan to make later this week.

This one is mine. All 3 are pretty much the same - just a few slight variations. For instance, the other 2 have metal letters that spell out 'prom'. Remember, I went shopping in my own private store and I only had 2 sets of the metal letters.

When the ribbon is untied

it opens like this. See the little black flap -

Flip it open to the right and it reveals the other side of the flap with a wallet size photo and a larger photo of the prom couple.

Then when you flip the whole thing over the other way to the left (is that even a clear description? I hope so. ) there is yet another small flap that folds down

holding a couple more photos. See the high-heel shoe embellisment? I used one in my book and one in the girlfriend's. The embellishment in G1's book is a pair of teal glittered sunglasses. MUCH more masculine - right?

Well what do you know! Fold that up and there's yet another similar page.

The little gold card has all the prom information on it - you know - when, where, what time, etc.

Open it to the left to find a photo of the front of their after prom shirts.

Ok, I think you get the idea now. The pages just keep folding out.

It makes a nice, compact little scrapbook.

All-in-all there were 9 large photos and 7 smaller ones in the book.

I don't know how many of these little books I've made for various occasions - a Disney trip, a couple of princess ones, 3 or 4 dog-themed ones, one or two for Halloween, several baby themed ones I gave as shower and grandmother gifts. They're fun to make and the people that I've given them to always seem to like them.

Now for a few replies to the comments I received yesterday:

Brownie - You only THINK my scrapbook room is neat. You didn't see the aftermath. LOL!

Deb - Do I sing? Well, if you want to call it that I guess I do. Let's just say my dogs could join in and you wouldn't be able to tell which voice was mine.

Missie - I've attempted digital scrapbooking but it just wasn't for me. I know there isn't the mess to clean up after a session but I've just got to touch and feel everything, if that makes sense. I guess I never got over the cutting, pasting and coloring I did in grade school.

Jerri - I'll be sure to post a picture of the wedding cake in late June. The one I'm making today is just a small one, much like a top tier of a wedding cake.

Angela - You are a super sweet bloggie friend! You know what I mean. Thanks bunches!

One Busy Week

I'd planned to be back yesterday but had trouble getting photos to load. Last week was a busy one for me.

Here's what took up much of my time.

I hemmed curtains for our garage windows. The curtains have been hanging there for over a year and I finally got around to hemming them to the right length.

With all the wind we've been having lately I decided to run a spring-loaded curtain rod through the bottom to keep the curtains from flying all over the place when the garage doors are open.

Of course there was the eternal laundry to do.

G1's prom was last Saturday. I was invited to go with them when they picked up his tux. He cleans up pretty well in our opinion and looked especially nice after the haircut he got later that afternoon. (Prom pictures to follow later this week.)

But this is what took up most of my time. Last Saturday was National Scrapbooking Day. A friend and I went to a Friday/Saturday crop so I spent last week getting pictures together with papers and embellishments to match.

AD says I have a mini-scrapbook store of my own and I go shopping there quite a lot. BIG SMILE.

All I can say is - it's a good thing I'm not a quilter! Fabric takes up a lot more space than sheets of paper. If all of my papers were lengths of fabric I'd probably have to take over AD's shop to store it all in.

I did take some time to notice some new heads of cattle on the land next to ours.

And a new bird that came to the feeders. Isn't he beautiful?

This week is a busy one too. I'm making a small one-layer "test" cake for my nephew and his fiancee. They've asked me to make their wedding cake in June and I want to show them some decorating options.

Then there's more laundry to get caught up on (some is in the washer as I type this post) and get my scrapbooking supplies back where they belong.

I need to get some more tomato plants to put in the ground. I'm really looking forward to fresh tomatoes in a few weeks!
